BIOGRAPHY
Gary MacLeod is a Toronto-based conceptual artist, whose work is based on signage in the mass-media landscape. A Moncton native, MacLeod holds a BFA from Mount Allison University.

MacLeod has exhibited in Toronto since 1981, most recently a series of storefront signage reinventions along Queen Street West. He has created projects for Nuit Blanche, Propeller, Fly Gallery, Harbourfront Centre, and ChromoZone. His work has also been seen in Montreal and New York City. MacLeod obsessively creates signs and manipulates photographs, to realize a parallel visual world that mirrors this one.

ARTIST'S STATEMENT
Words and signage saturate our mass media landscape. I obsessively create signs and manipulate photographs, to realize a parallel visual world that mirrors this one. By slightly changing the content of a sign, perspective is shifted and perception is altered to consider other subtle or blatantly boastful meanings.
